Sichuan Provincial Archive四川省档案馆Chengdu, Sichuan Province: Sichuan Provincial Archive Access: Required ID to register at the door. In the reading room, I filled out a form and gave them my ID and letter of introduction. The next day when I requested files I had to bring it to another building to be signed. If I return it would be useful to have a Chinese I.D., as every day the guards changed several times, and each one gave me a hard time about not having a Chinese I.D. I don’t think a “real” foreign researcher would have this problem, though. Reading/regular photocopying fees were average; copies of microfilm were very expensive (9 yuan a page). Access fees for Republican files were 6 yuan a file, a “student fee,” but I noticed that Chinese students were getting charged 4 yuan a file. Hours: 8:30-11:30, 2:00-5:30. The organization of the Qing mulu is confusing. I would recommend Sommer/Reed's recent article in Late Imperial China for a much better introduction to the Baxian collections. |
