Due to a regrettable lack of focus on bloggerly things, I&#8217;ve let my carnival friends down. First, I never congratulated Roy Berman on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutantfrog.com\/2006\/09\/18\/asian-history-carnival-2\/\">wonderful September AHC<\/a>. If you haven&#8217;t read it yet, you should: he did a great job of rounding up and presenting the material, and it could well inspire you to &#8230;. <b>submit to the upcoming carnival<\/b>: That&#8217;s right, the next AHC is just days away (two days, to be exact), so get your <a href=\"http:\/\/blogcarnival.com\/bc\/submit_119.html\">nominations<\/a> for your best work over the last month to <a href=\"http:\/\/rhineriver.blogspot.com\/\">Nathanael Robinson<\/a>, <i>Quickly<\/i>!<\/p>\n<p>While you&#8217;re considering what of your recent blogging is <i>good<\/i> you might also consider taking a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/world-history-blog.blogspot.com\/2006\/09\/carnival-of-bad-history-9.html\">September Carnival of <i>Bad<\/i> History<\/a>, and if you think any of your blogging is worthy, send it in to that one, which is also coming up shortly. If you&#8217;ve got history blogging which is more <a href=\"http:\/\/carnivalesque.blogsome.com\/\">Early Modern<\/a> (actually, they still need a <i>host<\/i> for October, which I can tell you, is really fun), or just plain ol&#8217; Historical (<a href=\"http:\/\/clioweb.org\/\">Jeremy Boggs<\/a> is hosting this weekend&#8217;s edition of the grand HC, and I have very high expectations), you&#8217;ve got plenty of outlets.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a rare political plug: <a href=\"http:\/\/hnn.us\/blogs\/entries\/30653.html\">American Historical Association Members needed for free speech resolution<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>In other news<\/b><\/p>\n<p>WWII, of course: The last barracks in New Jersey where <a href=\"http:\/\/hnn.us\/roundup\/entries\/30554.html\">Japanese Americans were interned has been demolished<\/a> to make way townhouse developments. Why were they in NJ, I hear you ask? They were working in a food processing plant, which was actually a welcome change for some after the boredom of the other camps, but they were still isolated and not free. Obviously, there are shades of good and evil: <a href=\"http:\/\/hnn.us\/roundup\/entries\/30054.html\">new revelations of Japanese medical experimentation on POWs<\/a>. New PM Abe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutantfrog.com\/2006\/10\/01\/live-blogging-of-the-abe-questioning\/\">dances around the Yasukuni question.<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone&#8217;s been talking about how Nationalist PM Abe is, or is going to be, etc. <a href=\"http:\/\/hnn.us\/roundup\/entries\/30136.html\">His views on the Yoshida Doctrine era<\/a> suggest he&#8217;s &#8230;. well, actually, I think he sounds like a pretty mainstream Republican most of the time, which does represent something of a change from the <b>60s and 70s<\/b>, but not so much from the last twenty years.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese corporations <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutantfrog.com\/2006\/10\/01\/the-automotive-industry-bigger-than-russia\/\">dominate the list of economic entities as big as countries<\/a>. Though, to be really accurate, the GDPs of the US and Japan should be <i>reduced<\/i> by the amounts credited to the various corporations&#8230;. <\/p>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/hnn.us\/roundup\/entries\/30305.html\">Iva Toguri d&#8217;Aquino, infamously tagged with the &#8220;Tokyo Rose&#8221; label<\/a>, passed away.
