The third KSGSC is planned for September this year and will be organised in the “heart of Europe” by the Oriental Institute, a top Asia-related research institution in the Czech Republic, in cooperation with other Korean studies institutions.

The convention will be accompanied by a cultural programme related to Korea and the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Korean Studies in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia). The KSGSC aims to be an event where graduate students from around Europe can come together to present their work and share ideas and experiences, and to
induce close cooperation and joint research projects. This year’s KSGSC follows up on two previous international conferences organised in 2004 at Ruhr Universität, Bochum, and in 2005 at SOAS, London. The event is led by a motivation to firmly establish the tradition of the European KSGSC, enhance cooperation among young European researchers in the field, and improve the level of mutual information exchange. We firmly believe that the regular KSGSC, as a kind of preparatory convention for young scholars to get first international experiences before attending biennial AKSE conferences, is an important event for the stabilisation and the future sustainable development of Korean studies in Europe. We regard the publishing of the KSGSC
Proceedings, i.e. the best of European student’s research results, as an important part of this effort.

Conference duration: 5 to 6 days.
Conference dates: from 12th to 16 (17)th September 2006 (to be confirmed).

The conference will be held in the building of the Academy of Sciences,
Prague, Czech Republic.

The conference will be conducted in English. No translation will be
provided.

The organisers will try to provide assistance for presenters to cover any
costs related to the conference.

The conference is open to applicants from outside Europe. However, priority
in providing assistance will be given to students studying at European
universities.

We now invite you to submit your ideas for a paper related to Korean studies that you would like to present at the conference. We welcome proposals especially from graduate students (either engaged in or recently graduated from PhD and MA programs) in all Korea-related fields.

If you are interested in presenting a paper at this conference, we would like to ask that you contact the conference organisers stating your name, contact details, university, faculty, department, subject area, degree, and probable paper title so that we can gauge interest.

Those wishing to attend without presenting a paper are also sincerely welcome – please e-mail us your contact details so we can help you look for budget/free accomodation in advance.

For more detailed informations please see the attachment. Thank you again for your time.

With best wishes for happy, peaceful, and succesful year 2006

Respectfully,

_________________________________________

Mgr.
