Commercial Handbook of China 1919-20

Volumes 1 and 2
Julean Arnold and American consular officers; U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, Miscellaneous Series No. 84, Washington, 1919-1920

Only tables, columnar lists and directory entries are transcribed; prose, photographs, maps, the glossary and the reading lists are not. Pages with tables were found from contact sheets by Claude Sonnet 5.5, which also flagged pages printed sideways (turned upright before reading), very dense tables and tables continued over pages; a table running over several pages was read in one call with all its pages. Each page was read once and not checked by eye; unreadable figures are marked [?], and printed totals that do not add up are noted and kept as read. In this Google scan the figures in some large trade tables are partly blanked out (for example China's trade in Haikwan taels, Vol. 1 p. 47, and cotton imports, Vol. 2 p. 329); those cells are marked unreadable. Volume 2 numbers its pages from 1 again; chapters are labelled Vol. 1 or Vol. 2.
