All statistical tables in the report and its public health appendix are transcribed; the contents, the prose, the photographs and the maps are not. Tables printed sideways were read from page images turned upright. Printed totals were re-added by the readers: totals that do not add up are kept as printed and noted. Where a digit was ambiguous only between 3 and 8 and exactly one reading made a printed total reconcile, that reading was used; such cells and other doubtful figures were re-read by a reader who had not seen the first reading, and those the second reader could not confirm are marked [?]. The scan clips the right edge of some pages: the 1926 column of the table of causes of death of infants (printed pp. 162–163) is lost and marked [?].
Note: In the early books added to this website, cells that are marked blank may be blank because the original was blank, or because the large language model extracting the table had difficulty in reading the cell. Read the transcription notes for each table and check the original source when in doubt.
