All 220 numbered tables are transcribed, with the appendix table of weights and measures (度量衡比較表); the contents, the maps, the statistical charts (統計圖表), the prose survey (概說) and the colophon are not. Tables printed across both pages of a spread are joined into one, and long tables read in sections by different readers are joined. Printed totals were re-added by the readers: totals that do not add up are kept as printed and noted. Where a digit was ambiguous only between 3 and 8 and exactly one reading made a printed total reconcile, that reading is used and noted. Figures are kept exactly as printed, including points or spaces printed where a comma or decimal point is expected. Small figures printed above a cell (foreigners, half-year taxpayers, quantities) are given in the same cell after the figure; in the trade tables many of these small quantities are too blurred to read and are marked [?]. The volume's errata slip (正誤表, 45 corrections) is attached as a note to each table it concerns; the figures stay as printed. About 380 of some 82,000 figure cells could not be read and are marked [?]; a literal ? printed in the book is kept as ?.
