All 536 numbered tables are transcribed, with the unnumbered sub-tables printed beside them and the table of weights and measures; the contents pages, the map and the four charts are not. Two frames of the scan repeat earlier pages and were skipped. Tables printed across both pages of a spread are joined into one, and long tables read in sections by different readers are joined. Printed totals were re-added by the readers: totals that do not add up are kept as printed and noted (many differ by a yen or two of rounding). Where a digit was ambiguous only between 3 and 8 and exactly one reading made a printed total reconcile, that reading is used and noted. The book's errata slip (正誤表, 6 corrections) is attached as a note to each table it concerns; the figures stay as printed. Small figures printed under a main figure with a mark such as ×, △ or ※ (e.g. 兼務, 朝鮮人, 蕃人) are written after it, as in "209 ×24". About 270 of some 197,000 figure cells could not be read and are marked [?]; a literal ? printed in the book is kept as ?. A spot check, in which a second model re-transcribed three tables (1,275 figures) independently, agreed on all but one cell, which is marked unreadable.
