The former Walker House (left) at No.12 Minamiyamate as it looked around 1975. Gone today, the building, brick wall, and flagstone path were still mostly intact at this time. Charlotte Walker, the widow of Wilson Walker, sold the family house and the adjacent Cliff House Hotel to the Tanaka & Amenomori Hospital in 1922. After World War II, the building was used by the Amenomori family as a clinic and residence. After the family sold the property in the 1990s, the building was dismantled to make way for a souvenir shop and rebuilt on another part of Minamiyamate. Today, ironically enough, the relocated building is being used by Nagasaki City as the “Minamiyamate District Preservation Center.”
