Oura Catholic Church (Tenshudo) as shown in a picture postcard of the early 20th century. Built in 1865 to serve the Catholic residents of the Nagasaki Foreign Settlement, the church was also the site of the discovery (only weeks after the completion of construction) of the underground Japanese Christians. Today the building is the only artifact of Western origin to have been designated a “National Treasure” by the Japanese government.
