Via View from Taiwan we learn that the statue of Sun Yat-sen in the Presidential Palace in Taipei has been replaced with a potted plant.
Well, it’s a Taiwan cypress, not just any old plant, but still a rather graphic representation of Taiwanification.
I went looking for a “before” picture, but I couldn’t find one. That alcove really does cry out for something more…. significant. The plants everywhere remind me of a grand hotel lobby.
Now if they would only replace Mao’s portrait at Tiananmen with a ficus….
