While getting ready to teach about religion in Late Imperial China, I thought that someone must have better pictures of the Taiwan City God temple than I do. Lo and behold Josh Ellis has a great post with lots of pictures and descriptions.
This blog post has it all. Father and Mother official, temple as center of a community, Buddhism in Daoist temples, worship of mortals–In this case General Shi Lang (施琅), who helped drive the Zheng family out of Taiwan and 廖添丁 an anti-Japanese bandit of the colonial period. Add in some pictures from Longshan (Making offerings, lantern festival in the courtyard, fortune telling, buying charms) and you have a whole lecture.
